I'm going to list some common SEO questions and reference it to build new tests. For now, I'm going to restrict my observations to what I see in Google.

SEO Off Topic Questions

• "max length meta description google" Go for 60 chars min ~ 155.
• Which gets crawled faster? /index.html or /keyword.html?
• If a page has more incoming links, does it get crawled faster/updated more often?
• How much text does a page need to avoid dup penalty?
• What's the minimum I have to do to make sure I avoid the dup penalty?
• Does using LAST MODIFIED improve crawling frequency?
• Does duplicate content penalty really apply across two domains?
• Are content on subdomains getting punished?
• Will a good .htaccess prevent cannonical problems with Google?
• Image Search: How to rank higher for image searches?
• How to avoid the adult content filter? Avoiding certain words?
• 302 Hijacking...does this really work?
• Impact of unique IP / Hosting
• Impact of crosslinking between domains on the same IP, versus linking across domains on different IP.
• Is there really a limit of # of links / page?
• Does going down several directories matter? Will spiders refuse to go below 3/4 urls?
• Will Google rank pages based on the text inside frames?
• Does having pages with very similar descriptions/title create supplementals?
• Will Identical H1/H2 tags across a domain create supplementals?

SEO Main Questions List

• Linking (internal/outbound/incoming)
  • Nofollow Tag
    • Does nofollow really pass 0 PR?
    • Will nofollow prevent Google from following a link / indexing a page?
    • If links are tagged with nofollow, will that pass more PR to rest of the links on the page?
    • Will pages be penalized if nofollow is used excessively?
  • Outgoing Link Boost
    • See the effect of outgoing link.
    • Try linking out to a big site like CNN.com. If I use nonsense text to link to CNN, will it place for that text.
  • PR/RK/Internal Linking
    • How much effect does PR have on ranking?
    • Ranking of two pages with different numbers of incoming internal links.
    • Ranking of two pages, where one page has incoming links from another domain, and the other page doesn't.
    • Compare ranking of a page with one incoming link to another page with 2+ incoming links. I want to know the weight of those links.
  • Incoming Links
    • Test power of link bombing from other pages. (e.g. page that doesn't have the word at all BUT links pointing to that page contains that keyword
• Directory/URL
  • Does it really hurt to have your pages 2-3 directories below root? (Create a page with similar optimization as another page and place it 4-5 directories lower).
  • Keyword in URL vs. no keyword in URL.
  • Keyword in directory VS no keyword in URL.
• On Page Optimization
  • <TITLE>
    • Does position of keyword in title matter?
    • What's the max length of titles? If a keyword is at the end of 100 char TITLE, will it help the page rank?
    • How about the effectiveness of keyword in long title versus short title, containing only the keyword?
    • If I place keyword at the end of title, does it rank lower than a page where title starts off with keyword?
    • Keyword at the end of <title>
  • META Keyword/Description
    • How about if the keyword appears in title, keyword, description, but not on the page?
    • What if keyword appears only in the META and anchor text to the page?
    • What if keyword appears in the META and Alt Text?
    • How about if keyword appears in the meta AND keyword appears on the page...does that boost page placement?
  • Anchor Text
    • What's the effect of anchor text? e.g. the effect of pointing to a page <a href="">submasodsfnh</a>.
    • Compare long link text with keywords embedded and a link text with only keywords.
    • Effect of anchor text? How about a page that is completely unoptimized except it gets an link in from the index? Which would rank higher?
    • Relevant VS non-relevant anchor text.
  • Page size / Word Count
    • The amount of text
    • The amount of keywords / page.
    • Is huge HTML pages really bad?
  • Images
    • Pages with pics and alt text versus page without alt text.
    • How much boost do ALT text give?
  • CSS/JS
    • Does Google read JS? CSS?
    • Does Google actually read CSS? How would I be able to tell? Use bold in CSS and compare with a page that use bold on the page?
  • Keyword Position on the Page
    • Also test some on-page factors, like text appearing at the top of the page VS text appearing at the bottom of the page. This should be very easy to test.
  • Keyword Position in a Sentence
    • Does it really make a difference if I start off a paragraph with keywords? Try putting keywords in different positions of a sentence.
    • I need to paragraphs of the same length, one with keyword embedded in the paragraph, and another with keyword that starts off the paragraph.
    • Keyword at the beginning of a sentence
  • Sentence Length
    • For example, if a keyword is embedded in a 4 word+ paragraph? Would that lower the page rank?
